Burma, now called Myanmar, is regarded as one of the poorest countries in the world with an average per capita income of just under $200 per year. Ninety percent of the population live at or below the poverty line. More than 30% of the children under the age of five suffer chronic malnutrition and nearly half of all children never attend school. According to UNICEF, Burma has the 2nd worst mortality rate in children in Asia with as many as 400 deaths per day for children under the age of five.
The Burma Connection, a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) humanitarian aid organization provides comprehensive aid, support and programs to the people of Burma.
