There are over 200 orphanages in the city of Yangon area involving thousands of either abandoned or orphaned children. Abandoned children are children who are taken to an orphanage by the family because the family can no longer support them. For most of these "poverty" children, they never see their family again.

Now, in the aftermath of cyclone, Nargis, many more children are orphaned and are seen wandering along the country's dangerous roads. Others have been seen doing whatever they can to earn a meal. Trafficking is a real issue, and as these children continue to drift from village to village they become more vulnerable to opportunistic traders.
